our sincere condolences to the simpson Family

I am posting the words directly that were written by tori's Owners The simpson's .There dogs have been living with our Family .I am posting this for all the people who have and sibling or 1/2 siblings to tori so they know what she died of . And hopefully this will diffuse the rumors that will more then likely start about what she died of . I have based my breeding program on HONESTY not DISHONESTY and PISS on the rest of the people who are just out to ruin the reputation of others through propaganda and rumors. > Dearest Group
>
> I just want to let you know that our darling Tori passed away today.
> She was put to sleep after very rapid deterioration.  I know this will
> come as a shock to you, but it has happened very quickly and I have
> not felt able to write about it until now.
>
> Sandi noticed a while ago that Tori was behaving strangely and that
> she then developed a head tilt.  The vet thought it might be an ear
> infection and treated her accordingly.  She did not respond to
> treatment but rather grew worse, and began to lose sight in one eye.
> We decided to send her to the animal hospital in Guelph and Kayla and
> her boyfriend took her there.  They did several tests including a rectal scraping which revealed prototheca organisms.
>
>
> Prototheca is an algae which lives everywhere, including in tree
> materials, running and still water, raw and treated sewage, soil,
> excrement, and some foods.  It is global though can thrive better in
> warmer climates.  It enters the body of an animal through the mouth or
> nose or through a wound. However, it seems that it does not usually
> cause disease unless the animal is immuno-compromised in some way.  The disease Protothecosis is extremely rare.
> It comes in three forms I believe, the most dangerous form being
> systemic.  In this form, it spreads throughout the organs of the body.
> Most dogs that contract this form die.  There have been a couple of
> cases where a dog has survived, but because it is so rare, no reports
> have been made on the condition of the dog or its quality of life.
> The systemic form damages the nervous system so it must be caught, diagnosed and treated early.
>
> We don't know where Tori picked up Protothecosis.  She did have a
> tick-borne disease for a short time in Thailand which was successfully
> treated.  However, during that time her immune system would have been
> lowered.  She could have picked up the prototheca then and it could
> have been growing in her body over these months.  We will never know
> for sure.  Cases have been reported in Spain, Japan, UK, Australia,
> south east US and other countries, but as I said before, it is very rare.
>
> Because the disease is so rare, medication has not been sufficiently
> developed and tested to work effectively in most cases.  Case
> histories reveal that the disease is picked up mostly by female dogs,
> collies and boxers.  I would suggest looking this disease up on Google
> to learn more about it, not to worry about it, but just to learn.
>
> After Tori started treatment, Jim kindly drove to Guelph and back in
> serious storm conditions to collect Tori so we could give her time at
> their house to see if there might be the possiblity of improvement in
> familiar surroundings.  Tori continued to deteriorate rapidly however,
> and by this time had no sight and, it seems, no hearing.  She had
> bloody diarrhoea and became very weak and unable to stand or walk much.  She spent most of her time lying down.
>
> I won't go in to all the details as it has been a very difficult time
> for both Sandi's family and ours.  Sandi has looked after Tori over
> these few days with a great deal of love and care, but Tori could not
> go on in the condition she was in and we agreed to put her to sleep.
>
> Tori was a dream come true for our family, especially for my daughter
> Emily and I.  I remember how hard we worked and saved to get her,
> Emily running a small pet sitting service at 15 years old and putting
> every amount aside towards Tori.  When she arrived with us in
> Thailand, we were so thrilled.  She made us proud in every way and
> gave us such happiness.  Her beauty, the expression in her lovely
> eyes, and her sweet, bubbly personality were a daily joy.  When Jasper
> was suffering so greatly, she was a constant source of comfort and hope for us.
>
> We are sad that we did not get to see her again.  We had such high
> hopes too for this lovely girl. It has been a very difficult time.
>
> I want to say a huge thank you to Sandi's family for looking after our
> dogs, both Jasper and Tori.  Jasper is doing well.  His medication has
> been reduced significantly and his hair is growing thick and long.
> That is something to be truly thankful for in the midst of the pain of
> losing Tori.  Thank you, Sandi and family, for being there for Tori
> and doing everything possible to give her a chance and make her final
> days as comfortable as possible.  She was suffering greatly, and
> though we always hoped and prayed for an improvement, in the end we made the right decision.
>
> Though it seems we shall not have a Glasgowhill's collie for some
> time, we still consider ourselves to be Glasgowhill's collie owners,
> and at some point in the future, we look forward to having lots of
> little Toris.  Her name 'Pure Perfection' suited her perfectly.  She
> was and always will be a very special dog.  We love you Tori.
